Why Your Juice Bar Franchise Won’t Have to Worry About Winter

Seasonality has little effect on Juice It Up! juice bar franchise sales thanks to a varied menu

Time to get juiced. Surprisingly, winter sales don’t slow down at Juice It Up! as more consumers start thinking about getting healthy.

When colder weather starts closing in after the holidays, people have the usual concerns about staying warm and staying healthy. For business owners, though, a new concern can creep in: Will my bottom line be affected by what season it is? For Juice It Up! juice bar franchise owners, the answer is no.

The reason Juice It Up! isn’t as affected by seasonality as some fair-weather franchises, especially in newer markets, is because our menu speaks to what our customers are looking for when the seasons change.

While Hamilton Beach research shows that some demographic groups, namely Baby Boomers, are still struggling to embrace smoothies as a healthy option, the bigger-spending Millennials are already on board with replacing some meals and snacks with nutrient-dense, fruit-and-veggie-packed smoothies.

More significantly, both groups are apt to make a move toward juices in the new year, our own research tells us.

Options for better health

Noah Burgess, our Research & Development Scientist, says wintertime is when menu items like our Immunizer and Detoxifier juices tend to shine. “This is when consumers are looking to fend off illness and get a fresh start on their health with the new year,” Burgess says.

That’s a boon for Juice It Up! franchise owners, who can leverage our nation’s annual renewed interest in healthy habits as a way to keep drawing new guests, helping them establish healthier routines and creating new regular customers in the process.

We actually see an increase in our year-over-year juice sales, especially in our newer markets and especially in the winter months, Burgess says. While our older, traditional markets in California might see 10%-17% of their business from juice sales, our newer markets in Texas, New Mexico and Oregon are reporting 20%-50% of their sales from juice.

“It’s really exciting,” Burgess says. “It really helps keep our business profitable and survivable during those winter months. People are used to feeling sick or feeling worried about getting sick. By the New Year, they’re trying to get back to being healthy after indulging during Thanksgiving and Christmas.

“We start to see a shift,” Burgess says. “The Energizer is the No. 1 seller in juices, but in winter you start to see the Immunizer creep up.”

What makes them go

The Energizer amps up the volume with grapes, spinach, apple, cucumber, ginger and pineapple, giving sluggishness a kick in the seat with a lot of B vitamins. With the Immunizer, guests get a twist on the classic green juice, seeking to boost their immune systems with vitamins C and K from a blend of apple, kale, cucumber, spinach, celery and lemon.

We also offer fruit-and-veggie Fusions, which are made-to-order whole fruit and veggie blended raw smoothies, packed with fiber and nutrients. Our Red Fusion has beets, pineapple, red grapes, strawberries, and banana, and perfect for people keeping an eye on calories. Our green Raw Fusion is a blend of kale, spinach, pineapple, apple and banana. Both are loaded with fiber, flavor and nutrition.

What keeps them coming back

With Juice It Up!, I like the idea that I’m able to provide myself and my customers with a healthy meal option.”

And that’s true no matter what time of year it is.
