Why Juice It Up! keeps its doors open when others don’t

We offer a competitive advantage over other juice and smoothie franchises, but still prioritize work-life balance for our owners

It’s important to know that at Juice It Up!, we very much believe in balance in all areas of life. That means work-life balance for our franchisees is a priority, too. One of our new initiatives involves extended operating hours for our juice and smoothie franchises, which gives us an edge over competitors who might be open for fewer hours. That means 14 hours a day, every day of the year except Christmas. Why? Because Juice It Up! is a lifestyle brand as much as it is a juice bar. Gyms are open and accommodating, as are we. People want healthy meal and snack options available at all hours of the days to fit their schedules. From Raw Juices to Superfruit, we have the customers covered.

That kind of accessibility to our devoted brand fans can be a game-changer – and a revenue-driver. But it doesn’t mean we expect our owners to be there every time the doors open. Understanding your customer base is key to any juice bar’s success. At Juice It Up! we know our customers want healthy treat and meal replacement options from first thing in the morning to long after the sun sets.

“Starbucks opens at 4:30 in the morning. Customers are looking for our products at that time, too,” says Marcus Skinner, Director of Operations. “Over the past few years, our franchisees have started opening earlier and earlier. The late-night crowd wants a smoothie or a post-workout meal. The early birds want something to fuel their day in a healthier way. If they can’t come to Juice It Up!, they’ll go to a competitor.

“And perhaps more importantly, if the competitors’ customers can’t go to them, they’ll come to us.”

Our juice & smoothie bars serve all dayparts

More and more retail operations are opening on major holidays. In all kinds of weather, people are running and biking and going to the store. Juice It Up! offers a varied and delicious menu that serves all dayparts. By letting people know about our extended hours, we can reach a broader customer base and potentially increase revenues.

Just like Starbucks and McDonald’s garner a lot of significant extra traffic with early mornings and late nights, Juice It Up! is positioned to appeal to that healthy-lifestyle customer who knows the other juiceries and smoothie franchises won’t be open until 9 in the morning, or that they shut down early on Sundays.

We’ve been a top juice franchise brand on the West Coast for more than 20 years, and it’s easy to see why customers love us. Juice It Up! offers delicious made-to-order juices, smoothies and superfruit bowls for every palate and dietary need, and we put a lot of research into making sure those menu items are nutritionally balanced. Our guests’ health and wellbeing is important to us.

Our franchisees’ health and wellbeing are important to us, too. That’s why, even though we have made extended hours an integral part of our competitive strategy, we have some built-in flexibility. For instance, you might open your Juice It Up! franchise on Thanksgiving Day just for the morning hours to catch the traffic from a holiday 5K. You and staff can still take the afternoon and evening to enjoy with family.

While it’s typical to focus your time on a new business, as your franchise becomes more established, you’ll be able to create management structures that free up your time. “I’ve put managers and assistant managers in place to run the store the way I like it,” says Amar Patel of Chino, CA, a father of two young children who also has businesses besides his Juice It Up! franchise. “I’m not really there as much now. I’d say less than five hours a week I’m spending at the store physically.”
